Short history

Judo was founded in 1882 by Professor Jigoro Kano in Japan. The definition of Judo is the “soft way” or the “flexible way”. This is done by using the opponent’s force against him.

Judo was the first martial art to become an Olympic sport, when it was first introduced in the Tokyo games in 1964. Since then, the sport grew in magnitude and is considered the national sport of Japan and is very popular in other Asian countries and in Europe.

Why Judo?

Judo is a contact martial art that teaches its players coordination, balance, flexibility, self confidence, and discipline. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, Judo is the safest contact sport for children under age 13, mostly for the reasons mentioned.

But Judo is not intended only for children. It is a great sport for adults as well. It provides you with the movement needed to keep fit, promote fat loss and builds muscles. Judo is perfect as an activity to improve cardiovascular health.

Judo mixes physical and mental abilities in order to overcome your opponent. It forces you to think all the time, several steps ahead, similar to a chess game. Maybe this is the reason that a lot of world level competitors play chess in their spare time.

You can also apply the principles of Judo to many aspect of life, including business.

In addition, Judo is very effective for self defence for both males and females.
