Tachi Waza stands for Standing Technique.
After we bow to each other (standing up), we reach for Kumikata (grip). A normal grip is taking your opponent’s direct opposite lapel with one hand and his/hers direct opposite sleeve with the other hand.
Number 1 above is right Kumikata and number 2 is left Kumikata.
From this position we perform our techniques, which are categorised into groups according to difficulty and orientation of technique.
