End of 2018

It’s been a great year for Judokan, with many new members joining, especially in our under 9 group. We’ve had several tournaments this year, with the important ones at the Nationals in June, and the Victorian State Titles a couple of weeks ago.

Out last classes for the year will be on Wednesday, 19 December, and we will break for nearly 6 weeks, till 5 February 2019, where we will start our new season in a new home, the Glen Eira McKinnon Bowls Club at the end of Tyrone St, Ormond VIC 3204.

During the break, we will organise fitness session a couple of times a week for anyone from the club who wants to keep fit, or prepare for the new year. The sessions will take place in a park, most likely the Duncan-McKinnon Park, but might relocate to the oval in Briker Reserver on Rowans Rd, Moorabbin. More details will be available in the next few weeks.

Enjoy your break, happy holidays, and see you all in 2019!

Change of Day – 1 March 2018

Judokan will have a change of day from Thursday, 1 March 2018 to Wednesday, 28 February 2018, same times for both groups.

This change is due to an event that the South Caulfield Hebrew Congregation is having on that Thursday.

Classes will resume the original schedule from the following week.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

2018 Calendar

We are back in full swing with sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm for the younger group, and 7pm to 8:30pm for the older group.

A few key dates to watch out for are the JVI Tournaments on .

In addition, we have 15 Squad Training sessions this year on Saturdays at Resilience Training Centre in Footscray, from 1pm for all under 15, and Cadets and older from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. There is a requirement to attend at least 60% of these sessions, in addition to a participation in a minimum number of tournaments.

We will be swapping a few of the days during to year to make up for the days we cannot run classes in the hall, such as 1 March (Purim), and the last 2 weeks of term 3 in September. All changes will be communicated in advance in our classes, and on this website and our Facebook page.

You can access our current calendar here.

End of Year – 2017

2017 has been a very busy year for us.

We had 5 JVI tournaments, Melbourne International Judo Open, and the Australian National Championships in Gold Coast.
We had a record participation in these tournaments, winning many medals, including 2 Gold, 1 Silver, and 3 Bronze medals at the Nationals!

Our last session for the year is Thursday, 21 December, and we’ll be back on 6 February 2018 at 6pm.
We will re-introduce Thursday for the younger group at 6pm, and I encourage all the younger players to attend twice a week, as this has been proven to increase retention of the techniques learnt, and will greatly improve players’ abilities and skills when competing.

Some more information for next year:

  • Nationals will be again at Carrara Stadium at the Gold Coast over the long weekend – 7-11 June 2018. The program has changed to accommodate the large number of competitors, starting the competition on Friday with the Junior and Senior boys and girls
  • Squad training begin on Saturday, 3 February 2018, 1pm-2:30pm for the Juniors, and 2:30pm-4:30pm for Cadets and older
  • JVI tournaments have been scheduled for 4 March, 6 May, 22 July, 26 August, with another to be scheduled for end of October
  • State titles are scheduled on 2 December 2018
  • MIJO will be earlier in 2018, on 16-18 March 2018, followed by a 2 day training camp in Broadmeadows

Fees and more details will be released when we’re back in February.

In the meantime, enjoy your break, be safe, and see you on the mat in 2018!

End of Term 2, 2017

Term 2 has ended with our last session on Thursday, 29 June 2017.
We will be back on Tuesday, 18 July 2017 at 6pm for the younger group, and 7pm for the older group.

During term 3, we will have 2 competitions on 23 July and 24 September at Broasmeadows, and a regional competition in August (Bendigo and Traralgon). The regional competitions will be a whole weekend event, including a training camp.
For the ones who seek to gain national points, the Sydney International will take place on 19-20 August.

Enjoy your break and see you in a couple of weeks.
